On Thursday, Taxpayers for Common Sense and six other oganizations sent a letter to the House of Representatives voicing the coalition's strong opposition to H.R. 4947. The bill introduced by Rep. David Jolly (R-FL) that's misleadingly-titled the “Homeowners Insurance Protection Act” would among other things create a “national catastrophe fund.” As the letter noted, such a fund could potentially burden taxpayers with billions of dollars in liabilities. As written, furthermore, the bill and the fund would only serve to bailout Florida's poorly run property insurance program. The full text of the letter is available below.
